So it's off to a slow start with the updates. But I have a compelling excuse: for the past ten weeks I've been working as an audio tech on an events tour in Ukraine. I'll be home (thankfully) on April 1st. It's been an incredible trip, but it will be good to get home. Click on the link to my flickr page down in the footer of this page to see photos from the trip.
In other news, the Cex and Nice Nice record release has been pushed back to April 2006, still on Automation Records.
I have signed on as co-producer (with the band) and partial engineer for the next Get Him Eat Him record. I am really excited about this project; these guys make very smart, willfully complex pop music. Right up my alley. Say hello to the fine gentlemen here.
The band lineup for DC singer-songwriter Rose's session later this month will be David Durst on keys, Stacey Matarrese on bass, myself and Rose on guitar, and the ever-incredible Darren Zentek (Kerosene 454, Channels) on drums. AND the session will take place up at Studio G with Joel Hamilton engineering. I first got a chance to talk at length with Joel at last year's TapeOpCon, and I think it would be hard to find a more thoughtful, funnier, smarter guy working in recording and production. I am really looking forward to this session, not least because I get to have some hang time with Joel and an extended opportunity to learn from him.
I will be in Tucson for TapeOpCon this year, soaking up knowledge and drooling over gear that I can't afford. I enjoyed New Orleans last year, but I must confess I have a soft spot for Tucson: I'm looking forward to visiting Hotel Congress, Solar Culture Gallery, Chicago Music, and experiencing dry, dusty heat (as opposed to the swamp-like summers here in DC).
Other upcoming activities will include the Disconnect (Clark Sabine) record for Lujo Records, which may have some surprise backing musicians. Here's his MySpace page, which has an mp3 of Jailor's Daughter, the song we did for the Lujo Valentine's Day comp. More in the works: mastering a record for the Chicago band Daphne at Silver Sonya later in the spring, and recording and producing a new record for Fredericksburg, VA's most excellent Pash at Inner Ear later in the summer. Other projects are in the pipeline as well and will get posted here as they develop.
As always, drop me a line anytime.
